Hawaii Hilo Takes Home Second Straight Cross Country Title
October 27 - For the second year in a row the University of Hawaii Hilo won the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference women's cross country championship.
The 5k race, held at Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in Belmont, California featured 40 runners from the seven PacWest schools.
The Vulcans scored 32 points, followed by BYU Hawaii (45), Hawaii Pacific (49), Notre Dame de Namur (123), Chaminade (126), Dixie State (149) and Grand Canyon (160).
The individual winner was Amanda Whitford from BYU Hawaii with a time of 18:54. UHH senior Kelly Rogers placed second while Diana Voorhees (BYU Hawaii), Kari Andrew (Hawaii Hilo) and Elin Soto-Thompson (Hawaii Pacific) rounded out the top five.
Ashley Hughes was the top finisher for Notre Dame de Namur, placing 12th with a time of 20:28. Deanne Soon finished 15th for Chaminade while Lynn Larkin (22nd) and Arlin Guadian (23rd) were the top runners for their respective schools.
The top seven runners were named First Team All-PacWest with the next seven garnering Second Team honors. Hawaii Hilo finished with five All-Conference runners while BYU Hawaii and HPU had four apiece and NDNU had one.
